Janice Emelie Woodard, 89, of Blacksburg, VA, died Sunday, Mar. 24, 2019 in Blacksburg.
She was born in Oxford, NY on August 31, 1929 and was the daughter of the late DeWitt S. and Alice M. Woodard. She was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School, Endicott, NY and the State University College, Buffalo, NY. She received a M.S. degree at Cornell University and a PhD degree at The Ohio State University. She was a home economics teacher in public schools in Caledonia and Canandaigua, NY and was on the faculty of the University of Vermont, the University of Illinois and Cornell University before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1969. She was named Associate Professor Emeritus of Home Management and Equipment, Extension when she retired in 1992.
She was an elder in the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, and a life member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Epsilon Sigma Phi and Virginia Chapter, 4-H All-Stars. She was active in the Association of Home Equipment Educators, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and the American Association of University Women.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Nelson E. Woodard and JoAnn A. Woodard, Fullerton, CA; niece and her husband, Maureen W. Dana and Richard Dana, Sacramento, CA; nephew, Blair D. Woodard, Portland, OR; two great-nephews; several cousins.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.
