Volunteers are needed for the Reading is Fundamental book distribution event at McHarg Elementary School on October 9 organized by the Woman’s Club of Radford.
Volunteers will label and organize, then help give out books to the children, packing up books at the end of the day.
“We put the childrens’ names in their books and help suggest books that are appropriate to a child’s age and interests,” Betty Overdorf, Woman’s Club president. “Volunteers will be keeping the tables full of books, working with the children. And general crowd control – each class in in there for 10 minutes. It’s pre-K to 8 years old or so, so it’s busy.”
The club has been organizing the RIF event for 15 years, raising money to buy books every year.
“We would love to have members joining us at the Women’s Club meeting at the Radford Public Library the next day, October 10, to get ready for next year,” Overdorf said. “You’ll be glad you did!”
Contact Betty before the 9th for volunteering details. 540-639-1376 or email: overdorf@jetbroadband.com
