Lisa Mariel Lemond, a 32-year-old inmate at the Western Virginia Regional Jail, which serves the City of Salem and the counties of Franklin, Montgomery, and Roanoke, has died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital from an undetermined illness.
Thursday, July 22, Lemond was transported by Roanoke County Fire-EMS to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was alert and responsive during the transport. She was treated at Roanoke Memorial throughout the night but was pronounced deceased at 12:08 a.m. Friday morning.
According to a statement from the jail and Deputy Superintendent Chris Hayes issued Friday morning, July 23, the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke was to perform an autopsy. The Roanoke County Police Department is investigating according to normal protocol.
All information at this point indicates this death was due to natural causes with no involvement of COVID-19.
Inmate Lemond was committed to the regional jail on July 2, 2021, and was awaiting a supervision revocation hearing in Roanoke County Circuit Court.
