RADFORD – The laid-back, family-friendly fun of West End Wednesdays returns to Radford next week.
The first of two installments planned for this summer is set for Wednesday, July 14. The second is
planned for August 11.
“While our season may be shorter, we are excited to return to the grassy nook of Glencoe Mansion,
Museum & Gallery,” reads an announcement by MountainTrotter Arts, which sponsors the event. ”Spend
your evening with friends, family, and community and enjoy Radford’s free and family friendly summer
concert series.”
The hosts also offered “a special thanks to Kollmorgen,”who own the adjacent land, for allowing the
event area to expand to allow more room for social distancing and adequate space for our community to
feel safe.” They also thanked Glencoe “for giving this event an amazing home.”
The first West End Wednesday is scheduled for 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will feature music by the Isaac Hadden
Project, described as a “four-piece jazz-infused, improvisational funk-rock band hailing from the
mountains of southwestern Virginia,” on www.floydfest.com.
In addition to live music, West End Wednesdays include food and beer sales, vendors and various
activities.
According to MountainTrotter Arts, the WEW events were “created in 2016 by a group of passionate
individuals who wanted to see a new lively, family friendly, and free event in our home town.”
WEW “began as a pilot program under the Radford Chamber of Commerce and in 2018 WEW became an
independent event solely run and organized by MountainTrotter along with a dedicated group of
volunteers.”
“We’re able to maintain this event with the financial help of our sponsors and partners, with the assistance
of the Radford Heritage Foundation, and from the generous donations from you, our community,” reads
MountainTrotter’s announcement. “We encourage you to come out and enjoy the summer evenings with
us. Bring a lawn chair, a blanket, or pull up a piece of shady grass. Bring your favorite game, relax, and
enjoy.”
The events are also dog-friendly. No outside alcohol is allowed, and ID is required for all alcohol
purchases.
