Weekly Reports: Christiansburg Picks Up Win in Softball

Addison Reasor hit two home runs and drove in six as Christiansburg defeated Patrick Henry Varsity Patriots 16-0 on Friday in softball. Reasor homered in the third and fifth innings.

Christiansburg won thanks in part to 10 runs in the third inning. Reasor hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Tyleigh Dillard homered to left field, scoring two runs, Brooklynn Manieri doubled, scoring one run, Ali Taylor grounded out, scoring one run, Sophia Russell singled, scoring one run, Reasor homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Reagan Smith hit a solo home run to center field.

Aubrey Davis earned the win, surrendering zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out two and walking one.

Christiansburg accumulated 14 hits in the game. Smith, Dillard, and Russell each collected three hits, while Smith, Dillard, and Reasor hit multiple home runs.

Lady Bruins Down Pulaski

The Blacksburg High School girls soccer team defeated Pulaski 7-0 on Friday night. Erin Bishop led the way with 4 goals. Also scoring was Ginny Crawford, Tea Bissell, and Piper Berger.

Blacksburg improves to 11-1 on the season while Pulaski drops to 0-10.

Auburn MED Champs

Auburn scored four in the second inning and held on for an 11-7 win over Grayson County to clinch at least a share of the MED Regular Season Championship.

Jared Lavergne, Zac McGlothlin, Brody Hensel and Mitchell Hale collected two hits each to lead the offensive attack. Hensel had a double and a solo HR and Lavergne drove in three and Talan Mower two for the Eagles. On the mound Matthew Altizer picked up the win, going two innings, allowing one hit and striking out six.

When things got crazy in the bottom of the sixth, Cody Flinchum came in with the bases loaded and the tying run on deck and retired three batters in a row to record the save.

Blacksburg Boys Unbeaten

The Blacksburg boys’ soccer team took a 2-1 overtime win this past week over Patrick Henry Blacksburg is now 10-0 and PH is now 8-1-1.

Sam Dowdy scored for the Patriots directly off a corner kick with under two minutes remaining in the first half for a 1-0 halftime lead. With 18 minutes remaining in regulation, Blacksburg’s Craig Huxtable equalized on a pass from Pee Wee Distler. In the second overtime the Bruins’ Jackson Gabriel headed home an Andrew Linden corner kick to give Blacksburg a 2-1 victory.

Auburn Downs Fort in Softball

Ariel Mullins collected three hits in three at bats, as Auburn defeated Fort Chiswell 12-3 in softball on Tuesday. Mullins tripled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the sixth inning.

Fort Chiswell got on the board in the first inning after Jackson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Auburn took the lead in the bottom of the second inning after scoring on a wild pitch, and Mallory Akers grounded out, each scoring one run.

McKenzie Booth earned the win for Auburn as she surrendered only three hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out eight and walking one. Skyler Hodges tossed three innings of scoreless ball for Auburn in relief. The pitcher surrendered one hit, striking out seven and walking none.

Auburn tallied 16 hits in the game. Akers and Mullins each collected three hits, while Johnnie Gaynor and Booth each collected multiple hits.
