Norm Lineburg coached both William Byrd and Radford high schools. So, when the two met for a Friday night football game this past week, it was fitting that game honored Lineburg, who passed away earlier this summer.

A special game ball was presented to one of his sons, Paul Lineburg, who served as the honorary coin tosser to begin the game.

Player of week: Christiansburg got its first win of the season thanks to the leg of senior Mason King who kicked a 16-yard field goal with no time on the clock. It was his second FG of the contest. For his effort, King is this week’s player of the week.

Area Top Five: 1) Glenvar, 2) Floyd, 3) William Byrd, 4) Giles, 5) Northside.

This week:

Christiansburg (1-4) at Patrick Henry (6-0)

Christiansburg picked up win number 1 in style with a field goal as time expired.

Sean McMurray had 16 carries for 184 yards with one score as Christiansburg finished with 306 yards rushing for the game. QB Jeremiah Barnes completed 18 of 28 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Cotto caught five passes for 105 yards with two touchdowns.

Patrick Henry is now 6-0 for the first time in 25 years after a 49-7 win over Salem. Dmarion Perdue scored three times and had 81 yards on 14 carries.

Prediction: Patrick Henry 40, Christiansburg 14.

Patrick County (2-4) at Radford (3-2)

Patrick County fell 21-14 last week to an unbeaten Floyd squad. Calvin Lancaster rushed for 142 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. QB Jayden Corns also rushed for a score.

Radford ran into a buzz saw in a 35-7 loss to William Byrd. Tucker Williams threw an 80-yard touchdown to Trenton Carter, who finished with three catches and 92 yards. Williams finished the game six of 12 for 121 yards.

Prediction: Radford 32, Patrick County 20.

Auburn (4-2) at Northwood (4-1)

Auburn was doubled up 59-27 by Giles. Isayah Hamman rushed for 134 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown. He also scored on a 63-yard reception. Ethan Brunk had three catches for 95 yards. James King also scored for Auburn on a late game interception.

Prediction: Auburn 32, Northwood 30.

Hidden Valley (0-5) at Blacksburg (2-4)

Luke Mann continued his back-to-back 100-yard games, running for 156 yards on 23 carries, but it was not enough as the Bruins fell 15-12 to Cave Spring. Ethan Lowdermilk kicked two field goals in the loss.

Blacksburg has lost four straight after jumping out to two wins to start the season.

Prediction: Blacksburg 28, Hidden Valley 24.

Eastern Montgomery (1-5) at Craig County (5-0)

Eastern Montgomery picked up their first win of the season this past week over Bland during their Homecoming game that was played at Auburn High School.

Craig shut out Stonewall Jackson 54-0 last week to remain unbeaten on the season. Jerry Smith ran for 210 yards and scored twice, while teammate Carter Calfee added 119 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns.

Prediction: Craig 42, Eastern Montgomery 7.
