Warm Hearth Foundation and Molina Complete Care joined forces Friday, Aug. 13, to throw a fundraising party Jimmy Buffett would have loved: a cheeseburger throwdown competition.
The event, a laid-back beach party with live music and a cheeseburger competition among area restaurants, is an annual fundraiser to help seniors in need of housing and healthcare at Warm Hearth Village.
Friday’s party at the Warm Hearth Village Center in Blacksburg was the eighth annual event, raising some $20,000 to help seniors in the Warm Hearth community. It included live beach music from the ToneZ.
The signature highlight of the event was the Signature Cheeseburger Throwdown in which local restaurants competed for the title of 2021 Cheeseburger Throwdown Champion. Attendees were treated to sliders from Hethwood Market, Red Robin, and Holiday Inn NRV Mall. They then cast their vote for the fan favorite, and the traveling trophy was awarded at the conclusion of the event.
Scott Sink and Hethwood Market have taken the title four years running and were looking to extend their streak with their signature Southern Market Burger: a perfectly cooked beef patty, fried pickles, and pimiento cheese on a soft slider bun with a sweet and spicy aioli.
The party also featured an online/in-person silent auction with one-of-a-kind items and experiences.
