VT’s Christian Webster on ESPN’s 4040 list

The worldwide leader in sports has selected 40 of the best head coaches and assistant coaches in Division I men’s basketball under the age of 40 and Virginia Tech’s Christian Webster was tabbed No. 29 on the prestigious list, as announced by ESPN on Wednesday.

One of the up-and-comers in the business, Webster is one of the youngest assistants in the major conferences and has been able to take away quite a few things from his current and previous stints.

After playing hoops at Harvard and being a part of the first Crimson team to appear in the NCAA Tournament in 66 years, Webster was hired as an assistant and coached on the staff of two Harvard teams to land berths in the NCAA tournament.

He would go on to coach at the University of Central Florida as an assistant for one season and then make the trek to Blacksburg in 2016. Since his arrival at Tech, Webster has been a part of grooming three All-ACC selections and a first-round NBA Draft pick and has been a key cog in bringing in the No. 26 recruiting class in 2020, according to 247 Sports.

Webster, 29, also made the 2017 NABC 30-under-30 list.

Tech was one of two schools on the ESPN 40-under-40 list to have two coaches either on the list or the just missed list, joining Florida, as associate head coach Chester Frazier was on the just-missed list.
