Virginia Tech men’s soccer head coach Mike Brizendine announced the additions of two student-athletes to the Hokies 2020 signing class Wednesday afternoon. Cameron Joice and Welnilton Da Silva join a Hokies program that is looking to continue its momentum from the 2019 season.
Cameron Joice is a forward from Newcastle, Australia. Joice will join the Hokies in the fall after transferring from Monroe College. A two-year letter winner for the Mustangs under head coach Marcus DiBernardo, Joice started 26 of his 29 games played and ended his career with six goals and one assist. He was also a captain for the 2019 team that won the first NJCAA title in program history.
Prior to his time at Monroe College, Joice played club soccer with the Newcastle Jets and was a member of Australia’s U-17 National Team that competed in the U-17 World Cup.
Welnilton Da Silva is a defender from Para, Brazil. He played two years for club Athletic Paranaense, where he helped his team win a title in the India Subroto Cup under head coach Marcos Skavinsk. Da Silva played for head coach Mike Potempa at Montverde Academy and spent time training with the Orlando City Developmental Academy.
The Hokies return to spring season action with a match against James Madison on March 21 at 2 p.m. in Harrisonburg..
