Oates award _Each year, the Johnny Oates Memorial Award is presented to the Virginia Tech baseball player who best exemplifies the traits Oates, a 1968 graduate of Tech and member of the baseball team, was known for: being a loyal friend and teammate, whose enduring and eternal faith, devotion to family, character, integrity, competitive nature, courage and perseverance continue to be an inspiration to all. This year, Junior Nick Owens (center with plaque) received the award, surrounded by members of the Oates family, prior to the Sunday game versus Miami – as part of the Senior Day celebration.
