Take Time to Make a difference! Kids Feeding Program Needs Volunteers! This project has a huge impact by feeding kids in danger of hunger a fresh, balanced meal from a cool, new foodie truck. The project increases the nutrition provided to the kids as well as boost their self-esteem by individually serving each child. We are serving meals to more than 500 kids a day!!! Volunteers need to be at least 16 and wear closed-toed, non-skid shoes.

Pick Up & Delivery Assistance
Warm Hearth Foundation
Volunteers are needed to assist in picking up and delivering donations for Treasure Trove located at 3055 North Franklin Street. Volunteers are needed on an on-call basis to assist periodically, if available. Delivery assistants would typically be needed for 2-3 hours a week. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must have transportation.

Nap Time Buddies (New River Valley wide)

Due to new childcare licensing requirements, two adults are required to be present in the room as children take their afternoon nap. This is important planning time for the Teacher so volunteers are needed to supervise during nap time (usually around 12:45-2 pm, depending on classroom/site).Background check, TB test for regular volunteers & requires a love of children.

Children’s Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP)
The Baby Shops are a new and unique resource for families with young children in the New River Valley. The Baby Shops support families who are enrolled in home visiting and working hard towards self-sufficiency. The Baby Shops provide a clean, actual store atmosphere where families can feel proud to shop and provide for their families! Enrolled families can shop once every three months, providing necessary items. We welcome anyone willing to help families in their community. Radford Emergency Assistance Program
Radford Emergency Assistance Program needs volunteers to organize a food drive for the Radford/Fairlawn Food Pantry. EMERGENCY FOOD was provided to 5,644 individuals in 2,566 families through six food pantries at NRCA last year. There is a constant need for non-perishable and fresh groceries for families (most with children) that cannot afford it. NRCA needs volunteers who are willing to organize a food drive. Drives have been done by churches, women’s groups, school clubs and classrooms, and interested individuals. No requirements, just a desire to help those less fortunate. Specific items needed for our food/household pantry: Shampoo, Conditioner, Men’s & Women’s Deodorant, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Body wash, Diapers, Oatmeal, Jiffy Mix, Ramen Noodles, Rice, Corn, Pasta, and Canned meats.

Read to Preschoolers!
The Mayapple School
Our preschool is looking for a volunteer on Tuesday and/or Friday mornings from 8:45 – 9:30 am to read to children ages 3 – 5. Reading would be informal, often one on one or with a small group (not whole group or story times). Volunteers must undergo a short training orientation before their first volunteer segment. Radford Meals on Wheels
Prepare meals, serve, and clean in the dining room. Deliver meals to homes. Pick up food from donation sites. We also need people to get involved in the organization, to help maintain RFDB so that we can continue our programs and grow to meet the need. Ask your company to sponsor one or two volunteer-days per month, when employees take turns delivering meals, serving meals, or sorting food.
