The Virginia High School has officially approved the new realignment of schools within southwest Virginia that will drop Pulaski County from Class 4 to Class 3.
The changes take effect later this year and will directly affect Christiansburg High School, who could now see Pulaski in the region playoffs in every sport.
Overall, Class 4 will now have 51 total schools, while Class 3 will now have 56. The Region D, which Pulaski and Christiansburg will compete in, includes Abingdon, Bassett, Cave Spring, Carroll County, Hidden Valley, Lord Botetourt, Magna Vista, Staunton River, Tunstall and William Byrd.
There is some movement in the Class 1 and Class 2 ranks, but nothing major to affect area schools.
Three appeals were approved including:
Lebanon moves from the Hogoheegee District to the Southwest District
Patrick Henry (Roanoke) moves from Class 6 Region A to Class 5 Region C
Grayson County moves from Class 2 Region C to Class 1 Region C
