Prom Dress Extravaganza
Meadowbrook Library; 3:30 – 6 p.m. It’s time for the 8th Annual Prom Dress Extravaganza. High school juniors and seniors from Montgomery, Floyd and the New River Valley are invited to pick out a FREE dress from the selection of fabulous donated dresses, and the fun doesn’t stop there – there are also accessories to choose from, refreshments, and giveaways for gift cards and gift baskets. American Legion Meeting

Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784, will meet at Ray’s Restaurant on Rt. 221, north of Floyd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Agency on Aging Annual Caregiver Conference
New River Valley Agency on Aging 11th Annual conference dedicated to the family caregiver; 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at New River Community College. Registration is free for the family caregiver and lunch is provided. Limited scholarships are being made available to provide in-home care while the caregiver attends the conference.

Mount Tabor Ruritan Biscuit Breakfast
Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will be serving up hot biscuits topped with delicious sausage gravy, or with the latest batch of our “world-famous” apple butter. Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall of Slusser’s Chapel, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd, Blacksburg from 8-10 a.m. This is below the sanctuary, on the lower church parking lot level. Fundraiser for the club to help serve the community; therefore, donations will be accepted for the breakfast. Apple butter also for sale.
Nineteenth Amendment celebration
The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County will officially honor the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote with a Champagne Celebration at the Lyric Theatre at 2 p.m. It also will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the League’s founding. Free showing of the award-winning film “Iron Jawed Angels,” the story of some of the women who worked to secure the passage of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote in the U.S. “All are welcome to see the film,” said Elizabeth Obenshain, president of the Montgomery County chapter of the League. “And, stay for the champagne toast after the film, about 4 p.m.” There will be a few minutes of talking about Virginia’s and the local efforts along with the champagne toast to the pioneers’ success. The celebration is co-sponsored by the League, the Lyric Theatre, and the Montgomery-Radford-Floyd Branch of the NAACP.

Intellectual Disabilities Agency of the NRV fundraiser
Jersey Mike’s supports Intellectual Disabilities Agency of the NRV. Please go to Jersey Mike’s! 100 percent of the proceeds will be given to IDA, or place an order for your department/office. The IDA is “so grateful to Jersey Mike’s for having such a tremendous community spirit. We thank them for their support AND great food.” IDA is a locally funded United Way agency that provides programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities who live in the New River Valley.

Spring Children’s Consignment Sale – Blacksburg United Methodist Church (BUMC) will hold its semi-annual consignment sale of children’s items at the Christian Life Center, 706 Harding Avenue in Blacksburg, on Saturday, Mar. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Families will be able to get great deals on gently used kids’ clothes and shoes, toys, books, games, movies, baby gear and accessories, sports equipment, maternity clothing and more. Many items are like-new (some even brand-new). Some items will be half-price between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. but you will want to shop early for the best selection! Proceeds will benefit local charities.

Bring a non-perishable food or clothing donation for the New River Community Action food bank (socks appreciated), or just stop in and make sure your contact information is up to date on your library account and RPL will remove your fines! Start February with a fine-free slate and enjoy the library again! Truly, no donation is required (but if you want to bring a donation, we’ll get it to NRCA for you!) 2020 Master Gardener Training class
The New River Valley Master Gardener Program is seeking applicants for the 2020 Master Gardener Training class. It will be a hybrid format with on-site training on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-8:30, three Thursday evening classes, three Saturday afternoon classes as well as five on-line training sessions. The class runs from late February through early May. Topics covered include basic botany, plant propagation, herbaceous plants, house plants, vegetables, fruits, pruning, landscape design, floral design, lawn care, woody plants, entomology, plant pathology, abiotic stresses, soils, and pesticide use and safety. Christiansburg Helping Hands is a group of crafters coming together every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Christiansburg Rec Center. We make items for various needs in our community.
