Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its May Fish Fry on Saturday, May 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1531 Mount Tabor Road, Blacksburg. Annual Master Gardener Plant Sale
The New River Valley Master Gardener Association is holding its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the front lawn of the Montgomery County Government Center on Roanoke Street in Christiansburg. Annual fundraiser provides grants to many local gardening groups. Held rain or shine. Perennials, annuals, shrubs, vegetables, and more. Plants may be purchased with cash or checks only; no credit cards.

Free Skin Cancer Screening
May is Melanoma Awareness Month, and River Ridge Dermatology will be hosting a free skin cancer screening at the Christiansburg Recreation Center on Friday, May 17, from 1:30-4 p.m. Regular skin checks play a vital role in early detection and treatment. Don’t miss Dr. Chad Johnston and Dr. Aleksandra Brown at this walk-in event. All ages are welcome, but children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The last patient must be checked in no later than 3:50 p.m.

Help save the Pilot Community Center
Pilot School was built in 1921 and served the academic needs of the local community until the 1960s when it became the Pilot Community Center. The building needs some repairs, and we are asking local residents to help determine the future of this historic Appalachian structure and how it will continue to best serve the community. Please make your opinion known at a meeting on Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at the Pilot Community Center. The address is 4449 Brush Creek Rd., Pilot, VA 24138.

Docent: training is provided for individuals to staff the front office, answer calls, make sales, and interpret the history of the museum; events planning: planning and implementation of our major events annually, including Heritage Day, Mountains of Music, h’Arts on Main, Cruisin’ Christiansburg; Working with any of the committees: (Membership, Marketing, Events/Fundraising, Building Expansion, Building and Grounds); research with genealogy projects: working with the genealogy team; gardening: working in the garden with Virginia Master Gardeners.
