At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg; 2 – 6 p.m. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. Christiansburg Farmers Market

The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, and handmade jewelry are some of the items available for purchase. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check the Facebook page for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The Farmers Market will run May 15 – Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.

 

Saturday, Oct. 18:

 

Pancake Breakfast

Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County- Blacksburg pancake breakfast, 8 – 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church’s Whisner Building, parking lot on the corner of Penn and Lee Streets. Cost is $8 per person and tickets can be purchased at the door. The motto of Kiwanis is “serving the children of the world one child one community at a time.” Montgomery Co-Blacksburg Kiwanis meets every Thursday for lunch (11:45 a.m. -1 p.m.) at Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg, with a program speaker most days. Club supports children in Blacksburg and Montgomery County. Financial support comes from the pancake breakfast and June golf tournament at Auburn Hills.

After Hours LiSCARY Haunted House

At the Meadowbrook Public Library, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Prepare yourself for an evening of thrills and chills at the After Hours LiSCARY Haunted House. This frightful experience is designed for those aged 15 and up who dare to explore the library after dark. Please be aware that the event will feature strobe lights and fog effects, which may not be suitable for individuals with light sensitivities or respiratory concerns. “Advancing the Science” The Latest in Alzheimer’s and dementia research

Brook Gill with the Alzheimer’s Association is back again for an informative presentation during which participants will learn about the latest in Alzheimer’s research and how it has led to advancements in diagnosing, treating, and preventing dementia. At the Blacksburg Community Center, 2 p.m. The program is free, but registration is requested. Contact Senior Programs Supervisor, Joy Herbert, at 540-443-1142.

 

Thursday, Oct. 23:

 

Death Cafe with Good Samaritan Hospice

At the Radford Public Library, 6 – 7 p.m. Talking about death won’t kill you. But it can help your ease your fears, address your concerns, and make you better informed about your options regarding end-of-life arrangements. Join us at the library to discuss hospice and palliative care. Representatives from Good Samaritan Hospice will be present to offer free information and answer questions about hospice care in general and in our area specifically. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be provided.

 

Sunday, Oct. 26:

 

Vintage Market

Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month from April through November, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the best selection of vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities and who knows what else, at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square park, under the Farmer’s market structure.

 

Monday, Oct. 27:

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Tuesday, Oct. 28:

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

MRSWA Household Hazardous Waste Day

The Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste event at their facility, 555 Authority Dr., Christiansburg, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment only. Please call 540-381-2820 to schedule. Open to residents of Montgomery Co. No commercial waste or commercial vehicles permitted. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any unwanted household product labeled as flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive- aerosols, anti-freeze, fertilizers, motor oil, paint supplies, photo chemicals, poisons, solvents, etc. No electronics, batteries or paper shredding. For examples of materials to bring and not to bring to the event, visit www.blacksburg.gov/householdhazardouswaste. Meadowbrook Courtyard Boo Bash

Celebrate Halloween at the Meadowbrook Courtyard Boo Bash, where fun and festivity await goblins and ghouls of all ages, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a s’mores station, participate in Halloween crafts and games, and embark on our brand-new Trick-or-Treat Trail. In case of inclement weather, festivities will continue indoors, ensuring every little trick-or-treater receives their share of treats. Come in costume and ready for a spooktacular good time!

Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter

Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel on Tyler Ave., is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held at the restaurant 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.
