The Birds: A Spooky Movie Watching Event
The Radford Public Library will host a free showing of the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic “The Birds,” 5:30- 7:30 p.m. in the library Community Room. Based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier, “The Birds” has terrified audiences for decades and is considered among Hitchcock’s best films. Popcorn and light refreshments will be available at the free program. Rated PG-13.
Christiansburg Farmers Market
The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, and handmade jewelry are some of the items available for purchase. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check the Facebook page for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The Farmers Market will run May 15 – Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.

On the campus of Radford University, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Features live music, Highlanders Games, food, vendors, sheepherding and more. Headlining musical acts are Tartan Terrors and Ally the Piper.
Blues, Brews & BBQ
Join the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation for the 9th annual Blues, Brews & BBQ event at St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall, a nationally recognized historic landmark that once served as the social center of New Town, a neighborhood for Black residents during segregation. The hall is the last building standing and serves as an important reminder of the resilience, pride, self-reliance, and community spirit of the people who lived there, as well as the legacy of injustice that segregation imposed. Performances by The JoJo Stockton Project, Lady D and Mi$$ion and The Blue Monday Band. Food by Kirk’s Famous Smoked Barbeque. Beer and wine by Blue Ridge Beverage. Children’s Consignment Sale

Fall Leaf Mulch Distribution
Leaf mulch available for pick up at Glade Road Growing, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Loose and bagged leaves collected by the town are composted into leaf mulch. This mulch can be used as a soil additive, for composting. This is an important service as composted leaf mulch keeps leaves out of landfills. Leaves can take up valuable landfill space and produce harmful greenhouse gasses. To arrange pickup, residents must register and follow the guidelines below. Register for a 30-minute time slot. Time slots are in 30-minute intervals starting at 8 a.m. Limit two cubic yards per truck or trailer. The Town will load your truck or trailer.

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting
Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.
Radford City Council meeting

Christiansburg Town Council meeting
Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County- Blacksburg pancake breakfast, 8 – 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church’s Whisner Building, parking lot on the corner of Penn and Lee Streets. Cost is $8 per person and tickets can be purchased at the door. The motto of Kiwanis is “serving the children of the world one child one community at a time.” Montgomery Co-Blacksburg Kiwanis meets every Thursday for lunch (11:45 a.m. -1 p.m.) at Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg, with a program speaker most days. Club supports children in Blacksburg and Montgomery County. Financial support comes from the pancake breakfast and June golf tournament at Auburn Hills.

Death Cafe with Good Samaritan Hospice
At the Radford Public Library, 6 – 7 p.m. Talking about death won’t kill you. But it can help your ease your fears, address your concerns, and make you better informed about your options regarding end-of-life arrangements. Join us at the library to discuss hospice and palliative care. Representatives from Good Samaritan Hospice will be present to offer free information and answer questions about hospice care in general and in our area specifically. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be provided.
