Market Square Jam
Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam is an official Crooked Road-affiliated venue that provides fun and entertainment on Wednesday evenings, June through September, at Market Square Park, 7- 9 p.m. This week’s performer is Brown Bag Willie & The Tall Boys. As Brown Bag Willie & The Tall Boys, Bill Blevins, Russ Boyd, Matt Peyton and Stan Rowe are long time hosts of Blacksburg Market Square Jam. Open to all who care to join in as they play old-time fiddle and banjo tunes from the area.

16 Squares Walking Tour
Meet the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation at The Alexander Black House every other Thursday at noon to explore the historic streets within the original 16 Squares of Blacksburg and learn the rich history and stories behind many of the buildings and landmarks throughout town that may go unnoticed. You may also schedule this tour by appointment if Thursdays don’t work for your group. As an add-on to this tour, you may also request a tour of historic St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall.
Family-to-Family educational program
National Alliance on Mental Illness, New River Valley Family-to-Family educational program, begins Sept. 4, 2025. NAMI Free, eight-session educational program designed for family members, friends, and loved ones of adults living with mental health conditions. Meets in person Thursday evenings, 6 – 8:30 p.m. through Oct. 30 at the New River Valley Community Services office, 401 W. Main St., Radford. Christiansburg Farmers Market
The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, and handmade jewelry are some of the items available for purchase. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check the Facebook page for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The Farmers Market will run May 15 – Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.
Town Gown meeting
The first Town Gown meeting of the Fall semester will take place at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be in the multipurpose library on the first floor of the Creativity and Innovation District Residence Hall, located next to the Graduate Life Center at Donaldson Brown between Kent and Otey streets. The evening’s topic is a meet and greet for Virginia Tech’s Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, Meaghan Davidson, the Director of the Dean of Students Office, Ro Settle, and the Director of Student Conduct, David Stuart. You’ll have a chance to interact with leaders and learn more about their approaches to student development, their offices’ support strategies, our new unit addressing basic needs, and opportunities for community interaction.

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its September Fish Fry 5 – 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd., Blacksburg. Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. Resident survey open: Virginia energy resilience study
The Town of Blacksburg, with support from the Virginia Department of Energy and Resilient VA, is undertaking a process to evaluate areas of energy vulnerability during extended power outages. The town has a short survey for residents to share their experiences. Survey link: https://forms.gle/ybrgLpBgwVqi4R3n6. Survey will be open until Sept. 12 and should take less than 10 minutes. Input will contribute to a case study the Town of Blacksburg will use to help guide practical actions for improving energy resilience, emergency preparedness and response.
Online survey for Blacksburg future new recreation facility available
The Town of Blacksburg is seeking community feedback for a future recreation facility. Citizens are invited to be part of the process by taking an online feedback survey that presents renderings of four potential locations for this new facility. Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter
Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel on Tyler Ave., is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held at the restaurant 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.
