Wilderness Road Regional Museum Fundraiser
Wilderness Road Regional Museum Annual Fundraiser at Al’s on First in Downtown Pulaski, 5:30 – 8 p.m. The evening will feature live music, a buffet with a Prime Rib carving station and food options for all, a cash bar with the first drink complimentary, and a 50/50 Raffle. Tickets for the event are available for $50 (plus processing fees) on Eventbrite, and for $50 at the Wilderness Road Regional Museum during hours of operation, Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:30-4:30. Blacksburg Rezoning meeting:
Neighborhood Meeting, 5:30 p.m., Blacksburg Motor Company Building, 400 S. Main St. Blacksburg Planning and Building Department has received a request to rezone four parcels totaling 6.15 acres from GC General Commercial and R-5 Transitional to PR Planned Residential. The parcels are located along the 1300 block of North Main Street and the 1000 block of Giles Road. There was a previous attempt to rezone parts of these properties in 2016 but the rezoning request was never completed. The developer is proposing four buildings on the site, one of which will be commercial on the ground floor and residential on the upper floors. The other three buildings will be solely for residential use. The proposed maximum number of residential units will be no greater than 20 units/acre (123 units) and the maximum bedroom count will be no greater than 62 bedrooms/acre (381 bedrooms).

Basic rider motorcycle course offerings at NRCC
Three basic rider motorcycle weekend courses through New River Community College. Basic Rider Course (BRC) is a three-day course held in Dublin. Class is Friday evening, 6 to 9:30 p.m., in 135 Rooker Hall at NRCC, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the motorcycle range, parking lot H. Sessions are August 9 – 11, August 23 – 25, and August 30 – September 1. The one-credit course includes classroom instruction and on-motorcycle instruction under controlled range conditions. Riders will learn the basic skills of motorcycle operation, effective braking, obstacle avoidance and safe riding strategies. Tuition is $156.55 for Virginia residents. Completion of the BRC prepares riders for state licensing with an exemption of skills and written DMV tests and may qualify for discounts with some motor vehicle insurance companies. Radford High School classes of 1990-1994 are having a multi-class reunion on homecoming weekend (Sept 20-21, 2019). Pre-1940s schools exhibit seeks contributions
The Montgomery Museum of Art and History is celebrating an upcoming new exhibit at the museum on the history of schools in Montgomery County with a series of school photos this month.
