Women’s & Gender Studies presentation
Women’s & Gender Studies Program of Virginia Tech presents “Living beyond Southern Living: Personal narratives from Southern women” at the Blacksburg Public Library (200 Miller Street) 5:30-7 p.m.The presentation is a four Southern women autobiographical tell-all performance about self-understanding. Their edgy narratives examine gender expectations, religious beliefs, sexuality, and the physical body. They ask, What is a feminist? Am I? Are you? A Q & A follows the performances. Some themes may be disturbing to some audiences, such as sex and abuse.

Meadowbrook Public Library, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bring your child to read to adoptable cats. Interacting with children helps socialize the cats to make it easier for the cats to find their forever home.

Radford Public Library, 2 p.m. Come see the new live-action adaptation of “Dumbo.” Movies are shown on the big screen and are free and open to the public. Snacks and drinks are encouraged – just bring them with you and get cozy!

Radford High School Reunion
Radford High School classes of 1990-1994 are having a multi-class reunion on homecoming weekend (Sept 20-21, 2019). Come to the homecoming football game on Friday night (Radford vs Gretna), and then join us for the reunion events on Saturday, September 20. Saturday events include a high school tour at 11:00 AM, a family picnic at Bisset Park at 12:30 PM, and a party at Sharkey’s Up Top beginning at 5:00 PM. We also invite faculty to attend the events. Montgomery County, City of Radford broadband study looking for feedback
In partnership with the New River Valley Regional Commission, Montgomery County and the City of Radford are seeking feedback from citizens regarding the current status of broadband in our communities. Both electronic and paper copies of the survey are available throughout Montgomery County and the City of Radford.

Community Health Center of the New River Valley helps adults access VA health coverage
Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, new health coverage for adults will cover more people. If you work in retail, construction, childcare, landscaping, food service or many of the jobs that don’t offer health insurance, you may be able to get low-cost health insurance that includes regular preventive care and treatment for chronic health conditions. Montgomery Museum volunteer opportunities
A number of volunteer opportunities are available at the Montgomery Museum.
Docent: training is provided for individuals to staff the front office, answer calls, make sales, and interpret the history of the museum; events planning: planning and implementation of our major events annually, including Heritage Day, Mountains of Music, h’Arts on Main, Cruisin’ Christiansburg; Working with any of the committees: (Membership, Marketing, Events/Fundraising, Building Expansion, Building and Grounds); research with genealogy projects: working with the genealogy team; gardening: working in the garden with Virginia Master Gardeners. Pre-1940s schools exhibit seeks contributions
The Montgomery Museum of Art and History is celebrating an upcoming new exhibit at the museum on the history of schools in Montgomery County with a series of school photos this month.
