RADFORD, VA (03/07/2023)– On the strength of three shutdown performances, including two against top-25 foes, Radford senior Ty Burton has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Burton was dominant in a trio of relief outings over the week. On Tuesday, he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings against No. 11 Virginia Tech, recording three strikeouts against one of the nation’s top offenses.
The LaBelle, Fla. native followed that up with a scoreless outing against No. 21 NC State on Wednesday, recording five outs and escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third inning with a strikeout, holding the Wolfpack without a hit.
In last Saturday’s 13-2 win over Hartford, Burton pitched a perfect inning, striking out all three batters he faced in the sixth. It was his ninth appearance of the season, which is tied for the most in all of Division I. For the week, the righthander totaled 4.1 innings and recorded seven strikeouts and no walks.
