Edward Carter Turner, Jr. (Ned), of Salem, passed away peacefully Aug. 21, 2025, at the age of 91. Born Dec. 17, 1933, in Lynnhaven, Virginia to Mary Foster Turner and Edward Carter Turner, Sr., Ned lived a life marked by quiet strength, devotion to family, and service to his community.

A proud graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI), class of 1955, Ned served in the Army and Army Reserves and had a distinguished 36-year career in banking. His professional journey took him to Culpeper, Salem and Christiansburg, where he built trusted relationships and was respected for his integrity and steady leadership.

Ned was, at various times, a member of Kiwanis International and Rotary International. He was also an avid golfer and Virginia Tech football fan. Family and friends will always remember his keen wit and infectious laugh.

Faith was central to Ned’s life. Serving as an Elder at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, he embodied humility and a deep commitment to the congregation. Those who knew him best will remember him as a quiet gentleman, whose calm presence and thoughtfulness enriched the lives of family, friends, and colleagues alike.

Ned was married to his beloved wife, Betty Sturdivant Turner, for 68 years. Together, they created a home filled with love, faith, and enduring companionship. Ned is survived by wife Betty, daughter Laura Turner Benali (Otmane), and sons Tom Turner and Carter Turner (Karen). Ned is also survived by five grandchildren, Julian Benali, Leith Benali, Callaway Turner, Mary Turner and Sarah Turner. Ned was predeceased by his parents, and siblings James Foster Turner (Betty), Nancy Turner Dornin (Bob), and Jane Turner Laird (Charlie).

Ned’s life was a testament to dignity, kindness, and unwavering devotion. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.

Interment will be held at Little Georgetown Cemetery in The Plains, Virginia Aug. 29, 2025 at 11 a.m., followed by a light lunch, location to be announced. A memorial service will be held at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church Sept. 4, 2025 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. All are welcome.
