Town of Fincastle looking for input on update to its Comprehensive Plan with an online survey

The Town of Fincastle is currently in the process of updating its 2011 Comprehensive Plan as required by State Code, an announcement from Town Manager David Tickner says, and the town is looking for input.

The Comprehensive Plan is a representation of what Fincastle wants to be in the future. The plan will contain objectives and goals for the community in the creation of that future vision for the town.

An integral part of that planning process is obtaining information and input from those who live in, work in, and visit Fincastle. Surveys are used to develop the town’s vision based on the input received.

With this in mind, those associated with the town are invited to take a community survey that was developed by town staff and the Fincastle Planning Commission.

“Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey – your input is very important to us,” the announcement about the survey says. There is also space to add comments and they are invited.

Town water and sewer customers will also receive the survey in the mail. Folks are asked to take the survey only once.

Once the results of the survey have been tallied, the Planning Commission will hold at least one community meeting to discuss the results of the survey. Although a date has not yet been set, the public will be notified when the meeting(s) is set. Those with questions about the survey can email davidtickner@townoffincastle.org or by call the Town Office at 473-2200.

The Comprehensive Plan is the most important planning document for a community, and a road map for the future of the town, Tickner said.

The survey asks for the age group the survey-takers are in, whether they live in town, how long, whether they rent or own their home, whether they work in the town; the survey asks to rate the qualities of the town in appearance, maintenance and condition of a variety of town assests— public and private; quality of life assets that include events, activities, shopping, dining, cost of living, historic legacy, preservation, tourism; commercial growth, small business opportunities, residential and mixed use space; growth of the town, special events, town-wide wifi, interaction with the town, services and activities, among others.

The survey will be open until March 31.

The survey is on the town website at  http://www.townoffincastle.org/comprehensive-plan.
