Boy Scouts dig up time capsule buried a decade ago

The Bear Cub troop in 2010, including Adam Cox, Thor Sproule, Benjamin Ramsey, Peyton Hurd, Nick Cooney, Shane Roop, Jesse Shelor and Nick Hastings-Crummey, buried a time capsule in the garden at Central United Methodist Church.

RADFORD – Ten years ago,a group of eight-and-nine-year-old Bear Cubs in Troop 244 buried a time capsule in the in the garden at Central United Methodist Church where they held their weekly meetings.

A decade later, the boys gathered to dig up the capsule.

“Our troop, led by Margaret and Tom Sproule, buried a time capsule in 2010, and this year all the boys graduated high school and decided to dig up the capsule to see what they put in it all those years ago,” explained Julie Cox, the mother of one of the former Cub Scouts.
Benjamin Ramsey put an AP college basketball ranking for 2010 in the time capsule. Kentucky was number one at the time, but WVU was in the top 10 and his family are WVU fans.

Peyton Hurd put in a Matchbox car, and Adam Cox put in a cassette tape and a list of what things cost in 2010. Mason Sproule added a Matchbox truck, while his brother,Thor Sproule, put in a baseball with his signature on it.

Shane Roop put in a picture he drew of Air Force One. Joe Kennedy buried a Lego Stormtrooper. Jesse Shelor added his school picture, Nick Hastings-Crummey put in a newspaper article about Haiti and Nick Cooney contributed Pokemon cards.
