Local steel pan band, the Panjammers, are holding an open house from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Tried Stone Christian Center (2100 N Main St.) in Blacksburg.
“We are a community band with really unusual instruments,” Derley Aguilar, who went to a workshop a decade ago and has been playing ever since, said. “Bring a friend. Meet the band, Ask questions and play a drum.”
The award-winning Panjammers are 25 or so musicians who gather to play these steel pans evocative of the gin-clear waters and sugar-white sands of their Caribbean origins at parties, parades and in the street.
Bring a friend to this casual practice for an opportunity to get to know the music and musicians, the announcement said. The group is comprised of a variety of players, ranging from teens to adults.
