Until this week, the offseason has been rather quiet for the Virginia Tech football team, but that has changed. Wednesday, the athletic department announced the suspension of 6-4, 255-pound defensive end Jaevon Becton.
A statement released by the athletic department said Becton was suspended from the program, effective immediately. “He is subject to the policies set forth in the Virginia Tech Code of Student Conduct. There will be no further comment on the matter,” the statement read.
No information has been released as to whether the reason for the suspension was related to academic or personal issues.
Becton earned first team all-state and first-team All-USA accolades following his play in 2017 at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach. He came to Blacksburg with lots of high hopes and redshirted his first year. Last season, he recorded a career-high three tackles in the game against Georgia Tech and had 12 total stops on the season, which included six solos.
Tech coaches had said Becton would serve an important role in providing depth this fall at the defensive end position.
