The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members
The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Phi Kappa Phi membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897. Its mission is “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”
Area students graduate from University of Georgia
Justin Sherod Cousin, of Radford, and Jennifer Rentschler, of Blacksburg, are among the more than 8,000 graduates in the University of Georgia’s Class of 2024.
Cousin graduated with an MA Nonprofit Management & Leadership degree. Rentschler graduated with a PHD in Education. “We are excited to celebrate the achievements of our University of Georgia students in the Class of 2024,” said President Jere W. Morehead. “We look forward to all the ways these students will positively impact their communities and organizations as alumni of the University of Georgia.”
Emma Bosman achieves Dean’s List at Belmont University
Emma Bosman, of Blacksburg, was named among the students who qualified for Belmont University’s spring 2024 Dean’s List. “Earning a place on the Dean’s List is a testament to the unwavering diligence, tenacity and commitment to scholarly distinction exhibited by Belmont’s promising students,” said Belmont University Provost Dr. David Gregory. “The ability to excel both inside and outside the classroom emphasizes these students’ exceptional character and drive, and it is an honor for me to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each one. Whether they are contributing to the arts, pioneering groundbreaking research or championing important causes, they have consistently demonstrated the same level of passion and excellence that has brought them to this momentous academic achievement.”
Cameron Earle of Blacksburg completes intensive research project
Cameron Earle, a member of the class of 2024 majoring in Robotics Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), recently completed a senior thesis that is required of all graduating seniors as part of the university’s distinctive project-based educational experience. The project, Autonomous 3D Welding with an Industrial Robotic Manipulator, was Earle’s Major Qualifying Project (MQP), one that is usually team-based and often focuses on very specific issues or needs of an organization that has partnered with the university to sponsor the student’s work.
“It’s inspiring to see the creativity and skills that our students bring to these projects, as well as the professionalism with which they present their research,” says Arne Gericke, interim dean of undergraduate studies and director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. “Their experience managing a major project like this-including identifying a problem and researching all of the implications and possible solutions while also managing team dynamics over an extended period of several months-sets them up well for success not only in their first jobs after graduation but throughout their careers.”
Caroline Jones recognized by UNG president for earning 4.0 GPA
Caroline Jones, of Blacksburg, has been named to the President’s Honor Roll at the University of North Georgia (UNG) for achieving a 4.0 grade point average during spring 2024. Jones graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UNG.
Local student named to Bridgewater College’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List
BRIDGEWATER – The Dean’s List for the 2024 spring semester at Bridgewater College has been announced by Dr. Jamie J. Frueh, associate provost. Approximately 560 students were named to the list, including Emelyn Koene, an English and communication, technology and culture major from Blacksburg. Students on the Dean’s List have attained a 3.4 or better grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
Katlin Vaught named to SNHU Dean’s List
Katlin Vaught of Radford has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Winter 2024 Dean’s List. The winter terms run from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean’s List.
SNHU announces Winter 2024 President’s List
It is with great pleasure that Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) congratulates the following students on being named to the Winter 2024 President’s List: Thomas Floyd and Sherif Mahmoud, both of Radford. The winter terms run from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List.
