
Blacksburg soccer: Blacksburg’s Bailey Prosser cuts through the John Handley defense Tuesday night in a Class 4 state quarterfinal match. Prosser scored the Bruins’ opening goal, and also had an assist in Blacksburg’s 4-1 win. Goals scored by Bailey Prosser, Alex Mills, Daniel Salom (all first half), and Kade Wheeler (2nd half).
Blacksburg boys, girls’ soccer advance
Blacksburg High School goalie Kinsey Verbrugge had four saves as the lady Bruins moved into Friday’s state 4A semifinals Tuesday in a 1-0 win over Woodgrove.
Blake Carroll scored on a free kick seven minutes into the second half. Blacksburg is scheduled to play Loudoun County, which had a 4-0 win over Jefferson Forest.
The match remained scoreless until the 47th minute when Blake Carroll served a free kick into the box skipping off a Woodgrove defender and into the back of the net.
Auburn baseball eliminated
The Eagles gave up three runs and only scored two in Monday’s 3-2 loss to PH-Glade Spring, who advanced to the state 1A semi-finals at Radford University.
Radford girls advance
The Lady Bobcats moved into Friday’s state semis with a 4-1 win Tuesday over previously unbeaten Richlands. Madison Page scored all four goals as Radford improves to 17-3 overall. Two of Radford’s losses came to 4A power Blacksburg.
Blacksburg boys advance
The Bruins moved into the state semi-finals in the Class 4 ranks with an easy 4-1 win over Handley.
This will be the 24th straight the school advanced into the state semi-finals. Blacksburg is now 20-0.
Bruin softball eliminated
Blacksburg’s softball team fell to Woodgrove on the road Monday in Class 4 quarters. Katie Currin was two of three at the plate with a double. The team finishes the season at 17-5.
Auburn boys’ soccer advance
Auburn blanked Honaker 7-0 in the 1A quarterfinals to push into the state semis. They will meet Galax for a third time this season on Friday at RU.
Auburn is now 15-5-1 on the season. Triston Perry and Gage Phillips, each scored twice in the contest.
