The Radford University women’s basketball program has announced it will host local elementary and middle schools in celebration of Education Day on Thursday, Nov. 7. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. at the Carilion Clinic Court inside the Dedmon Center where the Highlanders will host Hampton.
Students, staff, and chaperones attending will receive free admission, as well as a souvenir poster they will have the opportunity to get autographed post-game.
Schools wishing to attend Education Day must register in advance by emailing Josie Pendleton at jpendleton1@radford.edu. Please register by Friday, Oct.18 to ensure seating as capacity is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
RU-Navy tickets on sale
Tickets for the first women’s college basketball game at The Greenbrier, when Radford takes on Navy at Noon ET on Nov. 17, will go on sale at Noon on Thursday. Tickets will be available for purchase at www.greenbriertipoff.com/tickets.

In total, Intersport will stage nine college basketball games at The Greenbrier in November, eight of which will be held as part of the Greenbrier Tip-Off men’s basketball events on Nov. 15-16 and Nov. 22-24.
Big South honors Highlander
Radford’s Channing Blevins (Wytheville) has been named the Big South Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Blevins finished sixth out of 66 golfers at the rained-shortened River Run Collegiate (par 72, 7,268 yards) with an even-par 144 (73-71). Five birdies highlighted his second-round 71 (-1) to place him ahead of all Big South competitors in a strong field that also featured Gardner-Webb and High Point.
Freshman runners honored
Tuesday afternoon, the ACC announced the recipients of the week four cross country awards. Virginia Tech collected both freshman performer of the week awards, with Nicholas Kipchirchir capturing the men’s and Sharon Chepchirchir securing the women’s.
Nicholas Kipchirchir claimed the individual title for the men’s 8K race at the Hokie Invitational, collecting his second career win as a Hokie, and setting a personal best of 22:41.9. The freshman averaged 4:34 per mile and finished 43.4 seconds ahead of the next fastest competitor. He defeated 46 competitors in the field and earned his third collegiate award.
Sharon Chepchirchir collected her first win in a Virginia Tech jersey, securing the women’s 6K race in 20:55.4 with an average mile of 5:36.6. She defeated 32 competitors in the field and collected her first collegiate honor with the award.
