The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Wednesday afternoon that Adriana Shipp-Davis has been named a member of the 22nd “So You Want To Be A Coach” program.
With the selection, Shipp-Davis will get to participate in a two-day workshop on April 3 and 4 during the WBCA Convention in Tampa.
The “So” program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball.
“I’m excited for this opportunity,” commented Shipp-Davis. “Applying for something like this is outside of my comfort zone, but Coach McGuire pushed me into giving it a chance. Being able to learn about coaching in one of the largest basketball environments in the world is a surreal feeling. For me, having a coach that believes in me enough to suggest a program like this means the world. Being around this much coaching experience is going to be something I won’t forget.”
“The WBCA does an excellent job of providing opportunities for the young women in our game to learn more about the coaching aspect of our profession and allow them to network during our Final Four national convention. I am excited for Adriana and her selection into this year’s So You Want to Be a Coach program. The selection process is competitive and being chosen for this program is an honor. This will be an invaluable learning experience for Adriana and her desire to be around the game for years to come.”
Shipp-Davis is the third Highlander to be selected for the program during McGuire’s tenure. Previously, program alumna Aisha Foy and Destinee Walker have also earned the selection.
