VT men’s basketball adds Nadeau to staff
Virginia Tech men’s head basketball coach Buzz Williams has announced that Ryan Nadeau has been hired as director of player personnel for the Hokies. In that role, he will work primarily with the program’s video and technology needs.
Nadeau comes to the Hokies’ program after serving two seasons as a Basketball Operations Associate with the Chicago Bulls of the NBA. With the Bulls, Nadeau worked in the video operations for the team. He also worked closely with the analytics team, helping with scouting and player development.
Prior to his time with the Bulls, Nadeau was a student manager for the Michigan State men’s basketball program for three seasons. With the Spartans, Nadeau worked closely with video breakdown, using the same software and techniques employed by the Hokies. He assisted in all areas of the program and was a part of the team’s trip to the 2015 NCAA Final Four. He also worked two summers as a camp administrator with the program.
Intra-squad wrestling match
The Virginia Tech wrestling program will kick off the 2018-19 season with its annual intra-squad match on Friday, October 26, at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
The event, which will give folks their first look at the Hokies this season, is free and will be open to all fans. Matchups and more details about the evening will be announced the week of the match.
Virginia Tech is coming off of winning its second consecutive ACC title and its sixth straight top 10 finish at the NCAA championships in 2017-18. The Hokies return All-Americans David McFadden and Zack Zavatsky to the lineup while bringing in three transfers – Tom Sleigh, Korbin Myers and Billy Miller – that are all multi-time NCAA qualifiers. Redshirt freshman Mekhi Lewis, a junior world champion, also enters the fold in 2018-19.
ACC honors Hazelton
Virginia Tech WR Damon Hazelton was named ACC Co-Receiver of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Hazelton (6-2, 222) tied a career high with 12 catches in Saturday night’s contest vs. Notre Dame. In the process, he registered 131 yards to mark his third 100-yard receiving game of the season. He also hauled in a three-yard TD catch, tying WR Isaiah Ford’s school record with a TD catch in five consecutive games. Ford originally set the mark in 2015-16.
A redshirt sophomore, Hazelton sat out the 2017 season after transferring from Ball State. His 12-reception performance against the Fighting Irish tied as the second-best single-game performance by an ACC player this season.
