High school coaching news
Just days before practice started this week for high school football, two schools in southwest Virginia are suddenly looking for new coaches. Todd Tiller stepped down at Ft. Chiswell, while Darren Reed is out at Abingdon.
Tiller was 16-18 at the Fort and led them to back-to-back playoff appearances. He will now become an assistant at Ridgeview.
Reed had also found some success at Abingdon, going 34-12 in four years with a state playoff appearance each year. He previously was the head coach at Wise-Central and served as an assistant at Gate City, Twin Springs and George Wythe. Reed is expected to become an assistant at Gate City High School.
ACC to host women’s regional
The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee announced today regional host sites for the 2021 and 2022 championships.
The ACC and the Greensboro Coliseum have been selected as hosts for the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship Regional.
It will be the sixth NCAA women’s regional in Greensboro Coliseum history. The ACC and the Greensboro Coliseum will also host the 2019 NCAA women’s regional.
The women’s regional championships will be played on either Friday/Sunday or Saturday/Monday from March 25-28, 2022.
Auburn Summer Invitational
Auburn Hills Golf Club has announced a Summer Invitational Golf Tournament for July 28-29. A nine-hole Par 3 contest will start at 5 p.m. on Friday with a two-person captain’s choice scat game. The tournament itself will be 36-holes of best ball stroke play. Teams will be flighted after Saturday’s 18-hold round.
The number of flights will be based on scores from Saturday’s round. Sand bag rule will be in effect.
