Charity golf tournament April 20
The Walton Pentecostal Holiness Church is holding a golf tournament on Friday, April 20 at the Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd to raise money for youth programs. The cost is $240 per team or $60 per individual.

Celebration of women’s Sports
The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics will hold its Third Annual Celebration of Women’s Sports brought to you by Coca-Cola. Funds raised from the dinner, scheduled for April 20, and auction will benefit the women’s athletics programs. This year’s event features a panel made up of former Virginia Tech student-athletes as the Hokies celebrate the history of women’s sports at Virginia Tech.
The event, brought to you by Coca-Cola, will begin at 6 p.m. and cost to attend is $100 per person. Please visit HokieSports.com to RSVP and for continued updates.
Tech overall seventh
In the first set of winter Division I Learfield Directors’ Cup standings announced Thursday, Virginia Tech moved up to No. 7 in the nation behind strong winter performances from its indoor track and field, wrestling and women’s swimming and diving teams.
Tech is the second-highest ranked school hailing from the ACC, with NC State coming in at No. 6. The Hokies have racked up 430.50 points thus far, outdueling last year’s mark of 364.50 at the winter update.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.

Caving trip
The Blacksburg Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a “Wonders of the Underworld: Intro to Caving” trip.
Push, pull, crawl, and squirm through breathtaking passages. Experience total darkness and view unique cave formations. No experience is needed. All caving is in accordance to the Caving Protocols in Response to White-Nose Syndrome in Virginia.
The trip is scheduled for Saturday, March 31 and is for ages 11 and up. The fee s $20 for town residents and $30 for town residents. To register, call 443-1100 or visit www.blacksburg.gov/recreation.
Top-20 in platform
The Virginia Tech men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2018 NCAA Championships on Saturday with divers Thomas Shinholser and Ben Schiesl finishing in the top-20 of the Platform at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Senior Shinholser and junior Schiesl put up top-20 scores in the platform on the final day of competition at the national championships. Shinholser took 18th with a tally of 336.55 while Schiesl was just behind in 19th with 334.65.
Junior Norbert Szabo led the way in the pool, finishing 30th in the 200 fly with a time of 1:44.01. Fellow junior Ian Ho recorded the fifth fastest time in program history in the 100 free, placing 36th with a time of 43.51.
