Remembrance Run
To honor the 32 students and faculty members who lost their lives 11 years ago, Virginia Tech will hold the 2018 Day of Remembrance and the 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance.
The 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance in Blacksburg will be held on Saturday, April 14. The run will begin at 9 a.m. on the Drillfield following a moment of silence.
The run is free of charge to all participants, however there will be a $3 charge for the run t-shirt. This small charge is to cover the cost to make the shirt and will ensure that all participants who want to have a shirt will get one. Participants must register by Friday, April 6 to receive a shirt.
If you have any questions about the 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance or would like to register, contact recsports@vt.edu.
Minor league baseball, Hispanic connection
Minor League Baseball today revealed the on-field identities of the 33 teams participating in its new “Copa de la Diversión™” (“Fun Cup™”) season-long event series this season. “Copa de la Diversión” serves as a key component of MiLB’s “Es Divertido Ser Un Fan®” (“It’s Fun to be A Fan®”) Hispanic fan engagement initiative.
To distinctively launch this new initiative and visually celebrate the diversity that defines MiLB communities nationwide, MiLB and each participating team created culturally-relevant on-field personas that honor their respective U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities that are building, shaping and leading MiLB markets today.
All “Copa” teams will adopt these new personas via on-field jerseys and caps during designated “Copa de la Diversión” games during the 2018 season.
MiLB also introduced a new, “Copa”-specific website – MiLB.com/Copa – featuring each participating team’s unique identity and the story behind its selected on-field persona, and links for fans to purchase and pre-order any of the on-field caps, branded apparel and tickets to the “Copa” ballpark events.

Before the outdoor season begins for Virginia Tech this weekend, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its preseason rankings Tuesday afternoon, with the men coming in at No. 12 and the women at No. 20.
Tech is the only school from the ACC to have both of its units ranked inside the Top 25. The men are one of two schools from the league, with Virginia at No. 20, and the women are one of three teams ranked, with Florida State at No. 19 and Notre Dame at No. 24.
