Bryant Johnson to call VT baseball, women’s basketball
Virginia Tech Athletics and Learfield IMG College, its multimedia rightsholder, announced today that Bryant Johnson will join the Hokies’ broadcast team to call women’s basketball, as well as all baseball, effective for the current 2019-20 collegiate athletics season.
Johnson will relocate from Louisiana, where he formerly served four seasons as “Voice of the Colonels” and assistant athletic director of communications for Nicholls State University. In addition to his play-by-play duties with Hokie women’s basketball and baseball, Johnson will serve as an ACC Network Extra contributor regularly throughout both seasons.
At Nicholls State, Johnson hosted the Colonels’ television and radio shows, and handled all ESPN Radio New Orleans’ broadcasts for football, basketball and baseball. Johnson also is the former play-by-play broadcaster for Adams State University in Colorado, where he handled duties for football, women’s and men’s basketball, softball, baseball and lacrosse.
Concord loses in OT
Junior defensive back Imani Moore’s fumble recovery for a touchdown with four minutes left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 20-20, but the Concord University football team lost a 27-20 decision in overtime to Glenville State Saturday afternoon at Morris Stadium in Mountain East Conference action.
Trailing 20-13 with eight minutes remaining, the Mountain Lions (0-3, 0-3 MEC) had a drive stall out and were forced to punt. Glenville State (2-1, 1-1 MEC) burned three minutes off the clock and was knocking on the door of the red zone when a screen pass went to GSC’s Javon Butler. As the receiver cut back towards the middle of the field, Moore ripped the ball away from Butler and sprinted 81 yards for the game-tying touchdown.
Concord returns to Callaghan Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff against West Virginia State Saturday, September 28.
