Rivers awarded No. 25
Head coach Justin Fuente announced Thursday that LB Dylan Rivers will wear Frank Beamer’s No. 25 jersey on Saturday in Virginia Tech’s game vs. Furman. It will mark the first time that he has earned the honor of wearing Beamer’s No. 25 jersey.
Rivers (6-1, 237) has played in 19 career games (seven starts) during his Tech career. He has accumulated 39 tackles (20 solo), one interception, 1.5 sacks and two passes defensed.
ACC honors Kozlova
The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that Virginia Tech redshirt-freshman forward Nicole Kozlova has been chosen as the ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Hokies remain perfect on the season with a pair of home wins last week.
She is the first Tech field player to earn an ACC Player of the Week honor since Murielle Tiernan, who earned the last of her three on Sept. 6, 2016. Kozlova is also the third Tech freshman to garner the award since the Hokies joined the ACC. Ashley Stinson was honored on Sept. 4, 2204, and Marika Gray was recognized on Sept. 10, 2007.
Big South salutes Diop
For his stellar play last week, Amadou Macky Diop was named Big South Men’s Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The sophomore sparked an improbable comeback against UNCG last Monday night and carried the team to a 4-3 victory over the Spartans in overtime. Diop scored the first goal for the Highlanders in the 65th minute. He didn’t stop scoring until the 95th minute when he netted the golden goal for Radford. It was his third score of the match, which gave him the hat trick, the first for any Highlander since Oct. 14, 2017. Diop’s three goals and nine shots were both career highs. The sophomore has accounted for four of the team’s five goals. He has four goals on 17 shots, totaling eight points on the young season. Over half of his shots have landed on frame.
