The Christiansburg Recreation Department has always been a leader in providing opportunities for the people of the Town of Christiansburg and Montgomery County. They provide all types of facilities for the citizens. It would be almost impossible for anyone to say they can’t exercise and be involved in something.

You might have noticed activity on the roof of the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in the last couple of months. Solar energy is coming, as the town is leading the way in the smart use of reusable energy.

Christiansburg and Madison Energy are working to supply solar energy to the aquatic center. After they complete the aquatic center, they will start working at the town’s recreation center, with the completion date in early 2026.

The solar project will save the town $1.7 million over the next 25 years. With the rising cost of electricity. this is something the town and citizens will profit by in the future.

Not to get too technical, solar power has the ability to convert sun light into electricty. That is as far as I am going. I just feel it’s a good thing and all of us should be thinking about using solar.

Recreation Center: They will use 1,400 panels, which will provide 100% of the needed energy for the center.

Aquatic Center: They will use 1,200 panels, which will provide 38% of the energy needed by the aquatic center.

The citizens of Christiansburg should be pleased at the aggressive steps taken by the town in working to control future electric costs.
