The Big South Conference had an all-time high 59.69 percent of eligible student-athletes that earned Presidential Honor Roll status, which was released on Wednesday afternoon, with 66 percent of Radford University’s student-athletes on the list.
To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently completed academic year, and this past season, 1,780 out of 2,982 eligible student-athletes achieved the benchmark. In addition, the 59.69 percentage marks the third consecutive year above 50 percent.
It was the third time in five years Radford has eclipsed the 60 percent mark. A total of 154 Highlanders made the Presidential Honor Roll list. Radford was one of four institutions to surpass the 60 percent threshold as Gardner-Webb had 67.13 percent of its 356 student-athletes among the honorees, while Winthrop (66.42%), Campbell (63.74%) and Presbyterian College (63.54%) placed over 60 percent on the list.
High Point led all schools with 77.83 percent and UNC Asheville had 72.11 percent of its student-athletes claim the honor.
In addition, 135 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in 2016-17, and each of the Big South’s 19 sponsored sports had at least three 4.0 students.
