Joan (Diana) Thornton Sheppard, 78, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, April 15, 2021, at LewisGale Hospital-Montgomery. She was born in Montgomery County on July 18, 1942 to the late James Frank and Minnie Hollandsworth Thornton. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Oden Thornton, Garnett Thornton, and Johnny Thornton.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frank Sheppard, Jr.; daughter Lynn Sheppard; son Tim Sheppard; sisters Cleo McCoy and Carmell Miller; brother and sister-in-law Curtiss and Barbara Thornton; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 19, 2021, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buford Linkous officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
