RADFORD – Last spring, Belle Heth Elementary School invited parents, teachers and community members to test drive cars at the Ford Motor Mile Test Drive, held at the school’s Spring Maker Faire on April 6.
Last week, the school was presented with its earnings of $4,550 from the test drive event, which Melissa Epperly of Shelor’s Growing the Future school outreach program and the Belle Heth’s Parent School Association (PSA) organized and ran.
The Shelor money goes to the PSA.
“The money will be used for supplies for our Maker initiative and to purchase shading in our new picnic area so kids can eat lunch outside,” explained Belle Heth Principal Tara Grant. “The school recently purchased eight picnic tables for our outside space.”
“Thank you, Shelor Motor Mile, for allowing us the opportunity to raise money for our school, and thank you PSA, teachers, staff, interns, parents, and friends for test driving cars to raise this money,” grant added in a message to the community. “You are awesome and appreciated. Special thanks to Melissa Epperly and Shelor for supporting us in so many ways.”
The event last spring was the school’s third annual Student Maker and Vendor Faire. At the faires, students showcase their maker and entrepreneurial skills, along with vendors from the community selling homemade goods or from their personal business. All vendor proceeds help support the school’s maker initiative.
