It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Robert Shanklin, who left us Feb. 21, 2025. Born Jan. 24, 1949, he was a man whose life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and the land he loved.
He was the embodiment of love, care, and compassion. Though he was a man of few words, every word he spoke carried weight and meaning, and his actions spoke louder than any words ever could. His commitment to his family was unmatched, and he was always there with a helping hand, a kind word, and a heart full of love.
A lifelong farmer, John was deeply connected to the land. Farming was not just his occupation; it was his identity. For generations, his family had worked the farm, and he carried that tradition with pride and humility, passing down his wisdom and dedication to those who followed him. His life on the farm taught us all the value of hard work, perseverance, and the beauty of simple, honest living.
In addition to his work on the farm, John was a passionate supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies. His love for the team was evident, and he could often be found cheering them on. His spirit and enthusiasm for the Hokies were infectious, and he shared that same fervor with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His thoughtful nature, his quiet strength, and his endless love for his family have left a permanent mark on all our hearts. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through the generations that he touched, and we will carry his memory with us always.
Rest in peace, John Shanklin. You will be missed dearly by all who loved you.
