April 26 1931 – September 1, 2018
Imogene Schirr, 87, of Blacksburg, Va. and Canal Winchester, Ohio, passed away Sept. 1, 2018, with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Victoria and Goebel Howard, April 26 1931, in Alger, Ohio. Jean married Richard Schirr in 1950, and they lived first in Toledo and then east Columbus before relocating to Canal Winchester, Ohio.
Imogene is survived by her two sons – Gary Richard Schirr, of Blacksburg, Va. and Frederick Howard Schirr of Canal Winchester, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister Loretta Stahl of Muncie, Ind. and five grandchildren: Christine “Kiki” Schirr, Stephen Schirr, Lucas Schirr, Tara Schirr and Hunter Schirr, and numerous nieces and nephews. Imogen was predeceased by her loving husband in 2002.
Jean was an accomplished homemaker and baked an incredible German Chocolate Cake that made everyone’s birthday special. She loved country music – Patsy Cline in particular. Jean also enjoyed singing and had a lovely voice.
She worshiped at both Bethany Lutheran Church in Columbus and later Peace Lutheran Church in Canal Winchester. She was a devoted mother, wife and daughter and her family always came first. Jean was gracious and kind and always had a smile for everyone. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Canal Winchester Community Center (22 S. Trine St. Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110) from 1 – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 9. A ceremony led by Pastor Zoebl from Bethany Lutheran Church will commence at 2 pm.
A private burial will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo, Ohio.
The family prefers that people so inclined make donations to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation in lieu of sending flowers.
The Schirr family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, Virginia.
