Roger C. Rumley, Sr. of Christiansburg, VA passed away June 28, 2018 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by Debbie Rumley, his wife of 40 years. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roger C. Rumley, Jr and Amy P. Rumley of Christiansburg.
Born in 1947, he grew up in Rosedale, VA in Russell County on a tobacco and livestock farm.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving two tours in Vietnam during his service in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. For his meritorious service during combat, he was awarded the U.S. Army Commendation Medal.
He was the paint department manager at Reed Lumber Company in Christiansburg for 28 years. During that time, he came to know hundreds in the community and took pride in serving his neighbors.
He retired in 2011 and spent much of his remaining time enjoying woodworking and gardening.
Roger was a member of Grace Assembly of God in Christiansburg where he was a faithful supporter of the Men’s Ministry and Teen Challenge.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Grace Assembly of God, 1861 Mudpike Road, Christiansburg VA at 7 p.m. on July 9, 2018.
