For the first time in school history, the Radford volleyball team received votes in a top 25 poll. The VolleyballMag.com released its Mid-Major Poll on Tuesday in which Radford received 22 votes.
“It’s the first time in the 10 seasons I have been here that we have collected votes in a national poll,” Marci Jenkins said. “It’s great for our program and the Big South Conference. Continuing to get better is a must for us, so we celebrated yesterday when we found out and shortly after started to refocus on our next matches.”
After picking up three wins in the Cactus Classic and starting the season 6-0, the Highlanders are getting noticed by the volleyball world. The VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll includes all teams not in the Power-Five conferences (ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12).
Radford has one win over a Power-Five team this season, which came in Tucson, Arizona, at the Cactus Classic. It was the program’s fifth win over a power-five school since 2014 and third over a Pac-12 team as well.
The Highlanders are one of two Big South teams receiving votes in the poll. The other is High Point, who picked up two wins over power-five teams last weekend.
Radford will face two more Power Five teams in the regular season and one coming up on Saturday in South Carolina. The Highlanders will compete in the Carolina Classic. First serve is slated for 10 a.m., against Miami (Ohio).
