The Radford University men’s and women’s tennis teams were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic performances recently as the teams and were honored with the ITA All-Academic Team award and several student-athletes received ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
This year the Intercollegiate Tennis Association saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes.
The men were honored as an ITA All-Academic Team for a second straight season. A remarkable eight of 10 players on the 2019 roster were tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Alexandros Caldwell, Michiel Meekers, Rodrigo Magalhaes, Reed Crabtree, Pierre-Olivier Lassalle, Andres Silva, Yevhen Sirous and Matko Varga were the eight student-athletes with ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.
The Radford women earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition for the fifth time in program history and a third straight year. Jeanine Acierto, Anastasia Belyaeva, Tyler Blalock, Malin Falk and Marielle Leahy were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. To become an ITA scholar-athlete, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
