The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated New River Valley rival Radford 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech (4-4, 0-1 ACC) opened the day claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. On court one Sarah Baron and Natalie Novotna fell behind 3-0 before rallying to win 6-4. Sophomore Elizabet Danailova and freshman Rita Pinto were trailing 1-2 but ultimately came back to win 6-4 and secure the doubles point for the Hokies.
On court four, Samantha Gillas gave the Hokies a 2-0 lead winning 6-2, 6-2. Pinto had a close first set winning 6-4 before rolling in the second 6-0, claiming the match on court five.
Annie Clark secured the team win for the Hokies after picking up the match 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Nina Sorkin claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win on court three to push the Hokies to a 5-0 advantage. On court one, Novotna picked up the 6-2, 6-4 win to extend the Hokies lead to 6-0.
Nika Kozar secured the sweep for the Hokies on court two winning the first set 7-5 and claiming the tiebreaker in the second set 7-6(2).
