Benjamin Thiss, a redshirt junior on the Radford men’s soccer team, was awarded a resolution of commendation by the Radford University Board on Visitors on Wednesday.
Thiss was selected to be recognized thanks to his exemplary involvement not only with the athletics department, but with Radford University and its community. Fellow Radford University student Brittany Metrolis was also honored.
“I have always been interested in the advancement of Radford’s organizations which have such great potential,” Thiss said. “For Radford’s Board of Visitors to take notice and recognize me for my involvement is surreal. They are an extraordinary group of individuals who are so focused on the success of us students”
Striving every single day to be a model student-athlete, Thiss has maintained a 3.76 grade point average as a biology major with a concentration in Pre-Health while also studying Chemistry as his minor.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native has been a member of the Radford men’s soccer program since 2015, helping guide the Highlanders to two Big South regular season titles (2015, 2016) and one Big South Tournament championship (2016).
The Board of Visitors is composed of 15 voting members who are appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, subject to the confirmation by the General Assembly. Alongside one student representative and one faculty representative, the Board of Visitors serves as the governing authority of Radford University.
“This award is very indicative of the kind of work the Board of Visitors does,” Thiss concluded. “I owe so much to my peers, mentors, and coaches who deserve far more credit for my success than they get. They are what keep me motivated!”
