The Radford University men’s and women’s cross-country teams each had multiple runners set collegiate personal records Friday evening at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational en route to seventh-place finishes for both teams.
“We took another great step forward as a program today,” Highlander Cross Country Head Coach, Sam Bradley, said. “We had multiple collegiate PR’s on the women’s side with Chloe Phillips and Savannah Hoff whilst the men’s team was hugely improved from two weeks ago on the same course, but a longer distance. Callum Wilson and Zach Worthman led the charge with collegiate bests and showed incredible leadership for the men.”
Wilson led the way for the men’s team with a time of 26:33.3, good for 42nd place. Wilson’s mile splits were nearly 20 seconds faster than his last race at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Worthman followed behind with a 47th-place finish, running a time of 26:43.3. Joe Lino’s time of 27:17.4 placed him 52nd and was just one second off his time from the 2018 Big South Conference Championships, where he earned a top-20 finish. Freshmen Benjamin Pinckney, Peyton Hurd and Bus Baker each ran collegiate personal records to round out the finishers for the Highlanders.
Phillips led the women’s team with a personal record time of 23:42.4, which placed her inside the top 40 for the event. Hoff was the second to finish for Radford and also set a personal record, running a time of 24:54.9. Rhianna Reddinger and Kirstyn Gilyard ran times of 26:19.0 and 26:20.5, respectively, in the first 6K meet of their collegiate careers, while Ellie Look ran a 26:41.5.
The Highlanders return to action next week at the UVA Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville on Sept. 27.
