Radford University’s investigation of four fraternities for allegedly abusing a goat concluded Jan. 18, according to a University spokesperson.
The fraternities were suspended Dec. 5 after rumors began circulating in the local community and online that Greek life members were abusing a young goat. A www.change.org petition signed by 557 people accused a Radford University fraternity of raising a goat “in order for them to then kill it as initiation into the fraternity.”
RU chapters of Delta Chi, Pi Lambda Phi and Sigma Phi were reinstated Dec. 21, and the University’s Alpha Sigma Phi chapter was reinstated Jan. 10.
RU spokesperson Sherry Wallace said that the investigation did not find any violations of the University’s Standards of Student Conduct.
Though the University did “conclude that one or more students did purchase and had custody of the goat in question, on or about the dates the allegations were brought to the university’s attention,” Wallace said the goat’s current whereabouts and ownership were unable to be determined by the investigation.
