The 2022-23 academic year featured numerous awards, accomplishments, and championships for the Radford University Athletics department.

The 2022-23 season was highlighted by the women’s soccer program’s eighth Big South Tournament title and eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Radford upended Gardner-Webb in the championship game before facing Duke in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
Radford men’s basketball won 21 games, including two in the College Basketball Invitational, making it the first team in program history to win multiple postseason games in a single season.
Alex Guerra (baseball), Grace Reed (women’s Tennis) and J.D. Shade (men’s tennis) were each named Head Coach of their respective programs.
Radford women’s soccer’s Saleena Lynch ’22 was named Big South Woman of the Year, the fourth Highlander to ever win the award and second women’s soccer player in program history.
Ameek Batth (women’s tennis) and Adam Downs (men’s cross country) were each awarded the Big South Conference Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence.
Bryce Corbett, of Radford Men’s Golf, became the first Highlander in program history to take home Big South Championship Medalist honors, shooting 4-under par to top the individual leaderboard and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Salem Regionals.
Chloe Wellings topped the field in the Big South Track & Field Championship 5,000-meters to take home the gold.
An incredible 79.72% of the department achieved a 3.0 GPA or better thanks to dedicated efforts by the Student-Athlete Support Services staff, coaching staffs, and all Highlander student-athletes.
Fourteen different Highlanders were named to the Big South All-Academic Team for their respective sports.
Women’s tennis led all programs with a 3.84 team cumulative GPA in both the fall and spring semesters.
The third annual RAD48 Giving Challenge generated more than 790 generous donors who helped raise over $180,000 for each of Radford Athletics’ 16 Division I athletics programs, as well as several crucial departments dedicated to enhancing the student-athlete experience.
Radford Athletics agreed to continue its partnership with Nike and BSN Sports, the nation’s largest direct distributor of sporting goods to school and league markets, to provide Nike athletic gear for each of the Highlanders’ 16 varsity programs.
The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association selected Robert Lineburg to serve as President for the 2022-23 membership year.
