BLACKSBURG – The Blacksburg Library will hold a talk with acclaimed writer Rick Van Noy Wednesday, June 12 6 p.m.
Van Noy’s new book, Borne by the River, delves into a profound journey of self-discovery and healing. Following a near-fatal stroke and a separation, and amidst the global pandemic, Van Noy embarks on a solo canoe journey down the Delaware River, paddling 200 miles to his boyhood home just upriver from Trenton, New Jersey. Accompanied by his dog, Sully, Van Noy reflects on his life, fate, and the simple joy of being on the river.
Through Borne by the River, Van Noy masterfully weaves together memoir, natural and local history, and engaging reportage. His encounters with other paddlers, river enthusiasts, and members of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania enrich his narrative, revealing deep layers of environmental, historical, cultural, and personal significance of the Delaware River. The book eloquently captures how river journeys can disperse anxieties, wash away regrets, and recreate the spirit in its free-flowing currents.
Van Noy is an esteemed author known for his evocative explorations of nature and personal journeys. His works often focus on the intersection of natural landscapes and human experience, offering readers profound insights into the world around them.
This event promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking experience for all attendees.
